I am sorry to hear about the boot problems being experienced after installing Service Pack 1. Since a new install is less likely to have any of those problems, but definitely has problems with updating, these steps assume a new install without those other issues being present I have been working on my Windows Update on and off for months now…the sleepless nights, the frustration, the aggravation, etc. Problems With Windows 7 Professional Clean install of Win7 SP1 wouldn't update, and the windows update service drove CPU and memory usage to ~100%.
I know eventually I'll have to upgrade as Windows won't support 7 anymore, but until then I want to enjoy this new laptop & of course want it to have the Windows 7 Problems Booting Sometimes it's only temporary, lasting anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
